Glossop - accommodation in the Peak District
Glossop is one of the traditional " gateways
" to the Peak District. Originally a cottontown it stands in the north - east
corner of Derbyshire and on the west side of the Snake Pass. The Victorian affluence is easily recognisedhere, with
the granite - built market arcade fronting the market hall, and
welllaid out dignified squares. The old town, Old
Glossop, became abackwater of old and interesting
buildingsthat commercialism left untouched, with anetwork of small narrow streets, closely knit cottages and
an old cross where fairs wereheld. To the west of Glossop
isDinting Railway Centre and nearby, the splendid Dinting
Viaduct.
